Customer Reviews about Westerville Mayor's Court:

Westerville and the Mayor's Court is designed to find as many teens and young adults to charge or arrest as possible. I don't trust the Westerville Police and I'm an adult in my 50's who has never had a charge, been stopped, or had any issues with the police. My opinions are based on what I've observed. Otterbein University has even hired private counsel because Westerville Police sit around in the evening/night and wait for teens and young adults to pull over. They go to incredible lengths to intimidate kids, even lying to them. It's disgusting and I look forward to moving out of Westerville. I know there are problems with abuses of authority everywhere and in the grand scheme Westerville might not be so bad, but they aren't thinking of how they're percieved and that they're less protector, as they are perpetuating the stereotype ... at least where it comes to young adults. There are FAR too many officers, they have FAR too much money in their budget, and they have nothing better to do with their time than scare kids. The Westerville Mayor's Court is a joke, as is the judge and prosecutors. Prosecutors will try to get those charged to blame others for their charges. I find that not only abusive but appauling. The court is also aligned with at least one other business which certain people who are charged for minor misdemeanors are required to go to at a rate of 100%. The only purpose of the other business is to squeeze the maximum out of those who are unfortunate enough to cross paths with this court. I would venture to guess that there are kickbacks going both ways because this business is in the city of Columbus and about 90% of the people required to go to this business are charged by Westerville Police, and go through the Westerville Mayor's Court. Just a little fishy in my opinion. One other thing about the Westerville Police. They did a well-check on a resident and six officers showed up in three squad cars. The officers were looking in her windows and questioned her when she took too long getting to the door! She didn't have any obligation to answer her door - which she doesn't when she isn't expecting someone. She had stopped to put her bra on and felt they were out of line even asking her why she took so long. Overkill? Absolutely! And this points out the problem with the Westerville police. This was an old lady, not some hardened criminal. She'd never had any contact with the police and she was really shaken by the whole experience. I'm sure their intent wasn't to scare her, but common sense would tell anyone that showing up in force like they did would scare anyone. She was smart and declined to let them enter her home. She told me they were completely baffled by that. I don't blame her!
